Do you know what's scarier than Halloween?

The fact that we are now in November !!!!!

And that means it's time for the next exciting edition of “One Sentence a Day”…

October 1st - I had a surprise at my group of business leaders this morning - we had a visitor and he turned out to be someone I knew! I got to know this young woman about 15 years ago, when she was still in high school, through my work. What a pleasure to catch up!

October 2 - And on Friday, I walk. Trying to get back into the habit of walking in the morning is good for body and soul!

October 3 - Our boy came over, we chilled out with a take out pizza and watched Birds of Prey: and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn on Netflix. It's not my choice, but I ended up enjoying it!

October 4 - I made a lasagna and Miss 23 and her fiancé came for dinner. They had gone to Ikea to buy something and while they were there they bought me the mirror I wanted for our room (now just for the husband to hang it up!).

October 5 - A public holiday for the Queen's birthday, so we visited my dad and stepmom. It's so good to see him at home.

Daddy is back home

October 6 - I am stepping up my business coaching from group sessions to one-on-one as my business is at a critical point (preparing to grow) and I know I need help getting there! First session today.

October 7 - First networking breakfast in months!

October 8 - The joys of having heart disease in the family, high blood pressure and high cholesterol… this photo represents the medications I have to take every morning. There is more at night. Sigh.

October 9 - Friday morning, walk before work. The cat beds I ordered from Facebook arrived - yes no, not impressed. Nothing like the image you can see… and, the online store no longer exists. Make a complaint with Paypal.

Oct 10 - Mr. 26 came over and we all went for a walk around the local operation store and stopped for a name name name name sushi. Oh and I cleaned the linen closet!

October 11 - Grocery store. Writing a blog article. And I wrote a note in my journal "cruising storm show" and I have no idea what that means LOL.

Oct 12 - The kids introduced us to the Brooklyn 99 show so the husband and I watched the first season ...

October 13 - My personal trainer brought me a homemade cookie! This is an excellent PT 😉. We went for dinner to celebrate our almost son-in-law's birthday which is later this week.

October 14 - Husband made spaghetti for yum yum dinner.

October 15 - The Mastermind group and the husband saw the doctor about some disturbing symptoms.

October 16 - The husband joined me for my regular Friday morning walk. I didn't take my phone so even though I made him take a picture, it's very ordinary because he still uses an iPhone 5!

Friday March

October 17 - I've been nominated for a corporate award! The first time I heard the category, I was puzzled: “innovation and technology”. What am I doing that is particularly innovative or technological? But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I actually * do * SEO differently ...

Oct 18 - I had moaned that none of my clothes fit, so the husband took me shopping in Garden City. While we were there we couldn't help but notice how crowded it was - social distancing? What social distancing ?! Here is a pic of the booty I brought home, surprisingly all of it was from Big W except the top peak!

October 19 - Miss Fleur feels like a top notch cat, as she has a box to play with.

October 20 - A good cardio workout with my PT - she introduced me to boxing! I was really excited to see what it looked like on my fitbit - but would you believe I forgot to put it on after my shower this morning ?!

October 21 - I made some date balls.

October 22 - Heard I've taken the next step in rewards - I'll be interviewed by the judges via Zoom next week!

October 23 - A fun evening of networking with the Redland Women in Business, at a “drink and draw” event. Here are some of my best photos, along with the models… I think I managed to capture a pretty good likeness!

Oct 24 - Husband is away for the weekend so I was determined to get my social media calendar ready for my business (would love if you followed my First Web Writing Facebook Page and Instagram accounts) for the rest of the year but alas, the creative juice refused to flow. I managed about 3 weeks of messages, which is better than nothing! In the afternoon, the first storm of the season swept through.

October 25 - Another storm, although we descended slightly in my area. I was very angry with myself, because when I went out to get some milk I managed to scratch the car while backing up… grrr. Seriously, sometimes I don't feel like I deserve a nice car!

October 26 - Trying to take another walk in my week… so go for my first Monday walk. Jacaranda trees are spectacular this time of year!

October 27 - Zoom Interview with the jury - I think it went well, at the end they thanked me for a "great" interview - that must be a good sign, right? I am now authorized to say that I am a “Merit Laureate” for the Greater Brisbane Women in Business Awards! No more storms in the afternoon and evening. And here is a photo of Miss Fleur that I took in the morning ...

October 28 - My online grocery store was delivered in the afternoon, luckily before another storm hit!

October 29 - I left for my group of business leaders in the morning, and as you can see my new clothes are already very useful! In the evening I watched an interesting show about the Victorian slums of east London - where my grandmother lived as a child.

October 30 - Business meeting over lunch. Mr 26 came for dinner, then I had to work until late (at the end of the month, I always seem to rush to do everything!).

October 31 - Miss 23 and I felt the need for a Kmart solution! While we were in the shops we could hear the thunder and saw the lights twinkle a few times, but other than that we completely missed the severe hailstorms that hit the area (luckily I had parked in underground parking!).

Hmmmm there seem to be a lot of food photos in this update, which might be why I needed some new clothes. Oops.

In many ways, our lives have almost returned to normal despite the threat of the coronavirus. I have to say that I feel extremely lucky to live in one of the best cities / states in the world in the midst of the pandemic. The lucky country indeed!

Let's just hope we can keep it that way for the months to come until a vaccine is found ...

If food was the focus of my October - what was it for you ?!

Sometimes it can feel like maintaining a healthy lifestyle is an overwhelming challenge that doesn’t fit within the realities of daily life. It’s tough to hold down a full-time travail, eat well, train for a marathon, make homemade green juice, spend quality time with your family/partner, and meditate for an hour each day.

Coffee’s great too, but it’s best to start your day by re-hydrating with a full glass of water. Hydrating first thing in the morning helps to aid digestion, enhance skin health and boost energy.

Taking the stairs instead of the elevator is a simple way to get a little more physical activity in your daily life. It also strengthens and tones your legs and core while you’re at it !

A simple triche for healthy eating ( and portion control ) is to make half your plate veggies at each meal. The veggies pack in essential vitamins, minerals and other phytonutrients important for health and longevity. And, because they’re rich in fiber, they help to aid digestion ( aka keep you regular ! ) and keep you feeling full longer.

Using a sport tracker ( like the Fitbit, Apple Watch or similar ) to track your steps is an easy way to make sure you’re getting enough physical activity each day. We aim for 10, 000 steps daily, which has significant physical and mental health benefits. The Fitbit will also remind you to get 250 steps each hour ( another important measure of health

Conventional household cleaning products are full of harmful chemical ingredients that are not good for our health ( or the health of our kids or pets ! ). Switching to healthier alternatives is a simple way to reduce your exposure to environmental toxins in your home. Similar to cleaning products, conventional skincare and personal care products are formulated with toxic ingredients we should not regularly let absorb into our body’s largest organ. Maintaining a saine gut has significant impacts on absorption, skin health, immunity, esprit health and more. Aim to eat real food that’s made of whole food ingredients you would have in your own kitchen pantry, or that your grandmother would recognize. ( Yup, this rules out most packaged food, sorry ! ) This is a little different than suggesting you eat only “health foods” ( many of which are increasingly processed ! ). “Real food” includes unprocessed foods like an apple, a cucumber, soybeans or a steak, as well as foods loosely processed from one ( or few ) real-food ingredients, like butter, olive oil, yogurt, tofu, etc. In other words, aim for foods that could be reasonably made in your own kitchen and avoid foods that can only be made in a lab.

Reduce the harmful effects of sitting ( like at your desk job ) by standing up and moving around for a minute or two every half hour.
