It's hard to believe that July is already coming to an end! Summer 2018 is flying away and the fall season will be here before we know it. The most popular social media apps have heated up this month almost as much as the temperature.

From Instagram's implementation of fun and interactive features to Pinterest's emphasis on collaboration, our favorite platforms are moving and shaking things up a bit. Read our article to make sure you're up to date with all the latest social media features!

Instagram

No more endless scrolling

Instagram features a "You're all surprised" functionality, and all we can say is it's about time! Since the app changed its algorithm to present the photos in your feed in a non-chronological order, users are worried about missing posts.

A green check mark and a note will let users know that they are up to date with all new posts from the past two days!

The update also includes a “Do Not Disturb” feature that allows users to turn off their notifications from the app for 30 minutes to 24 hours.

Questions

IG is taking action to make the app more interactive than ever! With the latest platform update, users will be able to post questions to their followers in Stories and receive responses via DM.

This feature gives users the ability to ask longer and more in-depth questions and answers compared to its current slider and double-answer stickers.

The Q&A widget is intended to interject traditional social interactions, only in a Stories format. Users selectively share and respond to questions about their feeds. This can prove to be an essential tool for social media influencers, fans wanting their input on anything related to fashion, beauty, lifestyle, etc.

Spice Up soundtrack

Instagram takes stories above and beyond by now allowing users to add Songs to the photos and videos they post. Following Facebook's recent deals with various labels, according to TechCrunch, you'll be able to choose from thousands of songs.

Artists on this long list include Bruno Mars, Dua Lipa, Guns' N Roses and more!

  1. 1

Choose song sticker to accompany your photo or video

  2. 2

Choose the specific snippet of the song you want to include in the content

  3. 3

The song and artist will be published, and users can tap the sticker for more information

The feature includes music to suit anytime and every sensation! Users also have the option of choosing a song before taking a photo or video if they want their actions to coincide with the lyrics. It's time to organize your dance party!

The green point

A green Point will now appear next to IG users' profile photos to indicate when they are active on the app. Your followers will only be able to see the green dot in the Direct Messaging section when you share a photo or communicate with them.

This functionality already exists; however, the app gives it a new look with the green dot! It aims to allow you to communicate better with the people you are already talking to.

Users have the option to disable the feature in their settings if they choose to do so!

Facebook

Augmented reality ads

Advertisers have an exciting way to showcase their products on Facebook with the addition of augmented reality ads. The ads will appear like any other in the news feed, but instead include a “Tap to try it” option.

The update can be particularly useful for fashion and beauty brands. Among the list of companies testing the feature are Michael Kors, Sephora, and Pottery Barn.

Eternal stories

Have you ever liked a Story do you post so many things that you wish you had more than 24 hours with? Well, Facebook gives users the ability to have just that!

The platform is currently testing a feature called “Stories Highlights” where users can browse their favorite expired photos and videos and compile them into a themed collection.

This update is the same concept as Instagram Highlights, which has grown in popularity in recent months! Collections will be featured on your FB profile with headlines and cover photos on a horizontal scroll bar.

Your strengths can be seen by all your friends; however, you have the option of blocking certain users from seeing them if you wish!

FB + IG

Facebook is looking to expand your contact list in the Messenger section of the app! Platform users can connect their Instagram and Facebook accounts if they want to communicate with their IG followers on FB.

The functionality will be included in the “People” tab of Messenger, located next to the option that currently exists to sync contacts from your phone. Only your username and your IG account will be visible to your contacts!

This update can provide social media users with a multiplatform way to interact with members of their community and professional / interest circles.

Snapchat

Sharp eye

Snapchat offers its users a new way to navigate the world around them! Its latest feature, known as Sharp eye, is a visual search tool that allows users to identify purchasable items and barcodes, similar to the purpose of Pinterest.

The update is believed to be similar to Shazam's previous app integration. People may be able to search anything related to sellers, reviews, URLs, etc. They can share the products they find and send certain products to their friends.

Selfie Library

Snapchat has become known for its creative selfie filters over the years! Users spend time every day browsing the filter carousel, hoping that their favorites will be included.

If you can't get enough of these selfie filters, you're in luck! Snapchat is updating the platform to include a new Lens Explorer section where users have access to a library new filters beyond what is already on the carousel.

It is also working on creating its features to allow third party developers to create their own filters!

Pinterest

Collaboration tables

Pinterest encourages users to combine their creativity with the addition of collaborative advice! The feature will give group boards their own designated feed where they can receive notifications and communicate with other contributing users.

Updating is another tool Pinterest uses to keep people coming back to the platform and using it regularly for a variety of personal and business purposes! We think this feature will be especially useful for companies and group planning events.

Social media apps have taken steps this month to make their platforms more creative and interactive than ever before. There are many ways to use these updates and we would love to hear from you. Let us know how you plan to use these new tools in the comments below!
