5 home updates for cozy seasons

  1. Heater. Sure.

As soon as the temperature drops, I turn on our heating. I love the feeling of padding around our kitchen in the morning, warm and cozy after a good night's sleep. I brew my coffee first and curl up on the couch to watch some Hallmark goodness. NB: I am rationing my Hallmark movie viewing for the fall months only. So I really looking forward to it. Soaking up the goodness of the cheesy movie is a great way to start the day. And round too! Simply swap the coffee for wine.

If you are planning to restart your heater as well, it is so important to check your boilers. Oli and I did it a short while ago, and I'm so glad we have Boiler maintained before cold setting.

If you are looking for your own craftsmen, I recommend you check out Local hero.

Supported by British Gas, Local hero is a platform that allows you to match qualified and controlled local artisans to your needs. You can set up on Local Heroes and manage negotiations and time slots on the platform. SO convenient!

Local Heroes also has a great boiler board guide, which is worth reviewing before restarting your heater. The guide includes red flags to watch out for, like your climbing bills, weird sounds, and age-old radiators to heat up.

Do you already have your heating on?

  2. Fall decorating accents

If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen that I recently bought some decorative pumpkins. Having spent so much time at home this year, I couldn't wait to do some simple interior design updates that change the vibe of our apartment, a bit like I did for the summer.

A change of season is the perfect excuse to mix things up!

I added some sweet miniature pumpkins to our mantle and moved a few decorative pieces to go with a more neutral, harvest-inspired color scheme. With pinks and blues, and with neutral earthy colors.

    Talking about that. . .

  3. Autumn flowers and dried compositions

Bringing fall flowers into my house is without a doubt one of my favorite ways to mark the change of seasons.

Just recently I went to my local flower wholesaler and stocked up on a collection of harvest-inspired flowers. I created a fresh Oli bouquet and could enjoy it at home for about a week and also sprinkled some new dried flowers around which the season will last around.

More! I added some new pampas grass to the mix. If you love the look of flowers, but don't always want the upkeep or expense of fresh flowers, I can't recommend dried arrangements highly enough.

  4. Textile layering

Cushions. Blankets. Wall suspensions. Textile layering is where it's AT during the colder months. Oli and I have a large basket full of blankets next to a sofa area in our living room, and we are constantly looking for them.

This is a great time of year to look for textured wall hangings, which add warmth and depth to your room. I bought this wall hanging for £ 3.50 (!!!) from my local charity shop. And I like it!

If you prefer to go a DIY route, you can even make your own wall hangings.

  5. Candles

There is nothing quite like soft puddles of candles to give a room a capital-C-Cozy feel! I light candles all year round, but I have my favorite scents for different seasons.

As soon as fall arrives, I grab my spicy candles. I also love amber scents and anything that has aromatherapy oils in it.

Usually I light a mixture of scented and unscented candles so that the scents don't overlap too much. And of course, soon we will also be lighting our fire. Congratulated!

This year has presented so many challenges, but a change of season is always a great excuse to start from scratch. Fall is a great time to modernize your home, get a handle on any heavy housekeeping - ahem, boiler maintenance! - and enjoy all the good warm vibrations.

How do you modernize your home for the balmy seasons?

Check-out Local hero for more boiler board. More! If you need a brand new boiler, Local Heroes offers free installation if you purchase your boiler from them.
