I scoured hundreds of images online trying to find one that matched what I had in mind, but was left blank. It is as if the rings of friendship have disappeared from the face of the earth!

But in the late '70s and early' 80s, friendship rings were very important - at least for teenage girls like I was back then.

These flat bands were about 4 or 5mm wide, engraved with a swirling pattern and usually encrusted with a few tiny shards of gemstones - with sapphire or ruby ​​being the most popular.

Although they are known as friendship rings, the name could be a bit misleading for those who do not know. They were not traded by friends, but rather a girl was given a friendship ring by her boyfriend. It was a sign that things were getting "serious," a sign of love. Almost like a pre-engagement ring (in some cases anyway).

They were a bit of a status symbol when I was in high school - that meant someone loved you! A little sad now to think that was where we thought self-worth came from ...

Anyway, I must be a little cheeky because I had three 😉.

Friendship ring n ° 1

I have to admit that I didn't really like this one, but I didn't have a say in the choice. It looked a bit like the lower one in the image below:

Of course, it didn't matter that it wasn't as pretty as I would have liked, I was so thrilled to receive my very first friendship ring. I was 16 years old.

I later joked that he must have bought them in bulk because no girlfriend had lasted more than two months.

When he cheated on me, maybe I threw this friendship ring in the Brisbane River.

Friendship ring n ° 2

Okay, I dropped a lot of clues for this one and was presented with a gold friendship ring, engraved with a delicate pattern and with some diamond chips - I think it was for Christmas or maybe for Valentine's Day? We had been together for over a year. I wore it proudly for about a year before we broke up (on my 19th birthday, so good timing!).

Later that year, I accidentally backed up in another car. My car was fine, but I had to quickly collect cash to pay for the repairs to the other vehicle if I wanted to keep my mom from hearing about it, because I knew there would be hell to pay. So I threw it in a pawnshop with some other coins.

Friendship ring n ° 3

By the end of the 1980s, fashion had changed somewhat. The man who is now my husband took me shopping and together we chose a delicate design in sterling silver, with tiny diamond chips and a sapphire. Unfortunately, I don't have it anymore because it was stolen when our house was broken into many years ago.

The burglars also stole my favorite necklace and the ring he bought me for our first wedding anniversary - when our insurance paid off, we used the money to buy my eternity ring instead!

( Yup, this rules out most packaged food, sorry ! ) This is a little different than suggesting you eat only “health foods” ( many of which are increasingly processed ! ). “Real food” includes unprocessed foods like an apple, a cucumber, soybeans or a steak, as well as foods loosely processed from one ( or few ) real-food ingredients, like butter, olive oil, yogurt, tofu, etc. In other words, aim for foods that could be reasonably made in your own kitchen and avoid foods that can only be made in a lab.

Reduce the harmful effects of sitting ( like at your desk emploi ) by standing up and moving around for a minute or two every half hour.

Vitamin D is one of the most important nutrients for overall health, and sunlight is one of our best sources of it. Aim to get at least 30 minutes of sunlight each day—preferably in the afternoon, and without sunscreen ( read more about that here ). Not much sunlight in the winter where you live ?
