Watch: WWE Network
Meet our preview
Team Raw (AJ Styles, Keith Lee, Sheamus, Braun Strowman and Riddle) vs. Team SmackDown (Kevin Owens, Jey Uso, King Corbin, Seth Rollins and Otis)
Lee: Considering the talent on both Raw and Smackdown, how uninspiring it is that Seth Rollins, Corbin, Strowman, and Sheamus are in this game. A month ago, most of these guys were on the show they're fighting against now. Hopefully they are all wearing their blue and red t-shirts so they don't forget the “brand” they represent.
Sheamus has been associated with Drew McIntyre for the past couple of weeks and it's the one-push closet stuff that anyone on Team Raw has gotten recently, so I expect him to score a few eliminations. Losing to Retribution on Monday due to constant infighting and poor communication got me really excited to see how they perform as a unit this weekend.
On the blue side of things, Jey Uso is leading the team on behalf of table chef Roman Reigns. Rollins and Corbin don't fit into this game at all and feel like pin eaters. Reigns-Uso's story is the best thing on Smackdown, so it would make sense for Uso to win here and lead his team to victory. Prediction: Team Smackdown - Jey Uso survives
Team Raw (Nia Jax, Shayna Baszler, Lana, Lacey Evans and Peyton Royce) vs. Team SmackDown (Bianca Belair, Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan, Bayley and Natalya)
Lee: What hurt more wrestlers in 2020, COVID-19 or Nia Jax? Despite a mountain of evidence that she stinks and a list of wrestlers with injuries to her hands, Nia Jax's push must continue at all times. Mandy Rose is the last victim, and Mandy and Dana Brooke were therefore replaced in the match by Lacey Evans and Peyton Royce.
Unlike the circumstances of the men's playoff game, it's the women's Smackdown team that feels totally worthless. The Smackdown Women's Champion has Bayley and Carmella in her immediate future, so no one on the Blue team needs an immediate victory.
After spending the last two months going to the announcers table week after week after week after week ... would anyone be surprised that Lana wins this game for her team? I won't because getting ass kicked consistently is now a push. Prediction: Team Raw - Lana survives
Bobby Lashley (United States Raw Champion) vs. Sami Zayn (SmackDown Intercontinental Champion)
Lee: Who could care about this game? Those two titles just don't make sense anymore and WWE has no intention of either of these guys ever getting above the level they are currently at. Oh yeah and they're both heels, so who the hell are the fans supposed to be supporting? Are there any US Title fans who think, "Damn that Intercontinental title, the American title is the real high school championship?" Prediction: Bobby lashley
The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) (RAW Tag Team Champions) vs. The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) (SmackDown Tag Team Champions)
Lee: It's a first match between two popular teams, it's pretty cool. It would be even better if we didn't see these teams swapping titles so they could have the color to match their new brand when they were written for the other show. If WWE had planned just a few weeks in advance, they really could have built this match up to mean something.
The quality of these two teams makes this match a classic case of high floor, low ceiling. While the game is solid and probably even enjoyable, no one would expect a MOTY contender from these four guys in any way. Prediction: Street profits
Asuka (Raw Women's Champion) vs. Sasha Banks (SmackDown Women's Champion)
Lee: Star of The Mandalorian, Mercedes "Sasha Banks" Kaester-Varnado has the opportunity to steal the show for the second PPV in a row. After the big Hell in a Cell match against Bayley, Banks and Asuka both enter the match as faces meaning it should be a clean match with no shenanigans. Matches with Carmella being in her immediate future mean this could be Sasha's last chance for a while to steal the show.
After doing some research, Sasha never beat Asuka clean (a score win is her only win) in a one-on-one match. Asuka has been absolutely dominant on Raw and a loss to Sasha won't hurt Asuka at all. This is the only game on the show that I can't wait to watch. Prediction: Sasha banks
Drew McIntyre (Raw WWE Champion) vs. Roman Reigns (SmackDown Universal Champion) (with Paul Heyman)
Lee: In a line I never thought I would write, thank god Drew won the WWE title on Monday. The thought of anyone having to suffer from Roman Reigns Heel to Randy Orton Heel is truly terrifying. Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but I think it could be a really good game if they stick with what they're good at: hitting the other guy hard. Let these guys fight each other and avoid the community theater shit from Reigns recent title defenses.
Drew recently floated The Miz, The Fiend, Sheamus and Randy Orton to the WWE Title Stage; added to the Reigns-Uso feud / alliance, it means that there is a strong possibility of absurd interference in this match. In the COVID era, it's almost impossible to tell how overwhelmed people are, but McIntyre and Reigns feel like the two best stars in the business right now, so even for that reason alone, this match is something unattractive. Prediction: Roman reign
