Sophia before and after

What was your motivation?
In May of this year, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Even though my mom and several other family members have diabetes, it came as a kind of shock to me. I became determined to turn the tide or at least get things under control.

For years, I watched my mother suffer and take insulin injections. Hear the doctor say, "You have diabetes." horrified me. I immediately started looking for healthier alternatives to the foods I love to eat and joined a diabetes group for different recipes.

One of my biggest motivators was seeing my A1C go from 8.1 to 6.1 in a few months (making me officially pre-diabetic and no longer fully diabetic). I can't wait to stop taking any more medication. My next date is next month, so I plan to be in beast mode to see even better results.

How did you change your eating habits?
I have always loved sweets, so finding sugar-free, low-carb foods was a must. I am also a cook at heart. I'm from South Carolina so soul food was a must see, lol. I had to revamp some of my recipes to make them lower in carbs and healthier.

Tell us about your workout routine?
I started to train at least three or four times a week. On my high energy days, I'll walk to the gym, train, and then come home to calm down.

What is your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 249 pounds and I currently weigh 212 pounds.

How tall are you?
I am 5'4 '' tall.

What's the biggest lesson you've learned?
My biggest lesson is that the key to weight loss is to make a complete lifestyle change - without a fad diet.

What advice would you like to share?
There will be good days and bad, but the main thing is to continue your journey no matter what.
