Jacquesha lost 33.6 pounds. Watching a good friend bounce back from a heart attack inspired this chef to embark on her own journey of wellness. Focusing on health and wellness became her therapy. She cut out sugary drinks, walked 5 miles a day, and worked with a trainer 3-4 days a week.

Jacquesha before and after

What was your motivation?
A good friend of mine had a heart attack in January 2020. After being hospitalized for over a month, I started to see them take control of their health. Sometimes we are just not strong enough to do things on our own. I didn't want them to feel alone, so I decided it was time to start my own journey.

I'm a divorced single mom of three amazing daughters who needed to see their ever-vibrant mom bounce back in the dark. They deserved nothing but my best, and I hadn't been at my best. So, they fueled my desire to be a healthier me. For them, I would move mountains even if this mountain was in me. I needed PRESS, and that's what I did… and therefore I AM!

What made you keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
Giving up has never really been an option. At this point, I was overcome with grief and depression. Focusing on my health and well-being became the outlet / therapy I needed to continue living. I had suffered heavy losses during the onset of the pandemic. I came back to life!

How did you change your eating habits?
Fortunately for me, eating was not a weakness. I cook for a living and I'm not a big eater. However, I started to be more intentional about when I ate because I view this trip as a lifestyle change. I eliminated some items and replaced them with items of higher nutritional value. Being diabetic and already having trouble managing my blood sugar, I didn't want to make drastic changes where I couldn't measure its effectiveness.

What foods have you stopped or started to eat?
I cut out all the sugary drinks. I don't think we realize how much sugar we are drinking. I started to eat more raw vegetables, mainly salads. My toppings game was strong so I wouldn't be bored.

Let us know if you used a specific plan or schedule.
I did not use a program. I stayed open to trying new things and did so by setting small goals along the way - I ate raw, meatless, week, smoothie week, OMAD, etc. I felt that in order to succeed and stay the course, I had to feel like I was not denying myself the guilty pleasures (rather discipline and moderation).

What was your workout routine?
I walked an average of 8 km per day, usually in the morning. I also did HIIT training with a personal trainer.

How often did you work?
I worked with a trainer 3-4 times a week. Each workout targeted a different part of your body. No training suit was ever repeated during my transformation and I really enjoyed the fact that sometimes I spent all five days in it.

What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
His starting weight was 258.4 pounds and his current weight is 224.8 pounds.

How tall are you?
6 feet tall

When did you start your journey?
May 10, 2020

How long did your transformation last?
It took 90 days, but I'm still going.

Is Weight Loss Surgery Part of Your Journey?
No, it is not.

What's the biggest lesson you've learned so far?
To give you grace throughout the journey and always remind you that it is not a sprint but a marathon. Stay the course no matter what. YOU CAN DO IT!

What advice would you give to women who want to lose weight?
Sis, make yourself a priority! The journey to weight loss begins with understanding your worth and assessing your health. We focus too much on numbers when we need to focus on our energy, longevity, and well-being. The numbers will follow. Start small, set one goal at a time and crush it! Most importantly, GET STARTED!
