Maybe you want your kids to be more exposed to books and reading than you grew up in, or maybe you just don't know how to choose the right reading material for a child. Whether your child is just starting to read or is an advanced reader with a sagging shelf full of classic children's chapter books, it can be hard to know which texts will offer the right mix of challenge and interest to keep your kids going. addicted child but helping him or her learn something too.

Graphic novels are also a good choice for young readers, as the pictures can generate enough interest to encourage children to stick with reading even when it becomes more difficult.
Let your child choose their own reading material
The best way to ensure that your kids stay interested and engage in the books you buy for them is to let them choose the books for themselves. Children may be interested in books because of their titles, covers, or pictures. If your kids need help finding books that they might be interested in, ask them about the types of stories (or movies or cartoons) they like best and steer them towards those genres. If your child puts all five of their fingers down before they reach the end of the page, the book is too difficult. If your child doesn't put any fingers down, the book might be too easy.
You should always encourage your child to read books that will challenge them and help them learn more and gain more literacy skills, but sometimes you can let your child read a book that is too easy if they hold it and keep it.
