TIPS OF THE DAY
We are delighted to present to you today a new brand from Europe: Pond Copenhagen. Pond is a Danish lifestyle brand that focuses on climate-friendly and versatile men’s swimwear. A “European” swimsuit, for many of you, especially our readers from across the Atlantic, means swimming trunks. Well guys, you guessed it; Pond Copenhagen has reinvented a favorite swimwear silhouette, the swim brief, as a lifestyle garment.
Pond Copenhagen was launched in February 2021 in the Danish capital by four water-loving Copenhageners: Rasmus Veggerby, Mikkel Bechshøft, Anders Krygell and Alexandra Thielke. They wanted to design functional and climate-friendly swimsuits for all urban water lovers. Their customer is anyone who demands swimwear that offers freedom. Freedom of movement. Freedom to jump in the harbor. The freedom to enjoy. Freedom to be. The first collection includes briefs in six colors: black with white details, green with orange details, blue with pink details, red with yellow details, burgundy with white details and yellow with turquoise details. The Pond Copenhagen fabric used for their swimwear is called Q-NOVA. Q-NOVA is a fast-drying and durable nylon fiber regenerated from nylon scraps produced with a very low climate footprint. We would describe the figure as an amalgamation of low rise swim briefs and sunga. It is wide on the sides, provides good coverage on the sides and back and the front is flat, typical of sungas. Let’s hear from one of the founders, Creative Director Rasmus Veggerby, why this particular shape was chosen:
“Yes, men’s swim shorts may have been a bit shorter in recent years, but they’re still full of air, stick to the thighs, and never dry out. They are simply not suitable for water enthusiasts who enjoy swimming in the city all year round. We need swimwear that offers freedom. Freedom to jump in the harbor at any time and freedom of movement in the water. This is what a Pond swim brief offers. ‘
Pond Copenhagen swim briefs are the result of a meticulous process to achieve the perfect fit, coverage and functionality. They’re handcrafted in a small swimwear factory in Portugal, built to last and made to be used around town. There is a strong drawstring and quick release to ensure the swim brief stays in place, dip after dip. There is also a small strap on the side, signature of the brand, practical for hanging wet briefs to dry, or for hanging their keys or sunglasses if desired.
