When you become one of the best players in the NFL, people take notice. And David Johnson has certainly become that. It’s not often that a Cardinal appears on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Johnson made the cut this year, however, in a funky Gulliver-meets-Lilliputians way for the magazine’s 2017 NFL preview. The issue also features a great story about Johnson. (To be fair, there are regional covers, like SI has been doing over the past few years. Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and JJ Watt are the other cover boys.)

In recent years, it’s primarily Larry Fitzgerald who has been SI’s cover boy, including on the preview issue last year when Cards were a sexy Super Bowl pick. John Brown also returned in 2014. But this year it’s Johnson, the man who could challenge 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards. Of course, he is the engine on which the Cards offensive will work.

“It’s pretty cool,” Johnson said. “I think it went really well. We knew they were going to make a fuss. I didn’t know if I was going to do the cover or not. They said I had a good chance. Once I saw it it was amazing. It’s an incredible feeling.

“I hope to get a copy very soon.”

Teammate Chris Johnson, who has gotten SI cover himself in the past, said it was a dream to get SI cover. “I really like his, all the players that run into him,” said Chris Johnson.
