Help with prescription drug costs: PAN Foundation supports cancer patients

By Amy Niles, Executive Vice President of the PAN Foundation

Steve Woolf lives in Arizona with his wife and their dog, a corgi-lab. At 70, he worked part-time and focused on simple pleasures, like family hikes and his hobby researching Civil War documentary photography.

He is able to enjoy all of these things while managing his chronic lymphocytic leukemia, in part thanks to financial assistance from the PAN Foundation. Living with chronic cancer means years of expensive treatments, and because Steve has Medicare, there is no annual limit on his prescription drug costs.

“To be grateful for this vital PAN Foundation grant is an understatement,” he said. “The generous grant has kept me on track with my cancer treatment. “

A cancer diagnosis is never easy, and unfortunately treatment is quite often expensive. For those with health insurance, like Steve, the costs can exceed a fixed monthly income. Stories like Steve’s continue to motivate us all at PAN to advocate for Medicare reform and provide financial assistance for nearly 70 chronic and critical illnesses. Our mission is to support the underinsured and underserved, and to advocate for reforms that will improve access and accessibility to health care and ease the burden on millions of people facing the same challenges as Steve. .

Over the past 15 years, PAN has served nearly one million patients, providing over $ 4 billion in financial support for their medical needs. Whether you are already familiar with PAN’s work or getting to know us for the first time, here are some of the ways you can find help or get involved with PAN.

Ask for help

PAN offers patient assistance grants for nearly 70 diagnoses, including many chronic and rare cancers and diseases. Our eligibility checker helps you find out if you qualify for any of these funds within minutes. These grants often cover 100 percent of your prescription drug costs, including deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. We cover products approved by the FDA or listed in official codes or evidence-based guidelines for each disease. This includes branded and generic drugs. Eligible patients may also receive transportation assistance to cover travel costs to their doctor’s office and to the pharmacy.

To apply, patients (or caregivers or providers applying on their behalf) complete a paperless application, get instant approval, and in most cases can start using their grant immediately. You can apply online in minutes and track your grant on our online portals. Get started today at panfoundation.org.

Receive funding alerts via the waiting list

We do our best to keep our funds open year round. If the fund you wish to apply for is closed, we recommend that you register on the waiting list. Our waiting list system gives potential recipients the first chance to apply for help when funding becomes available. Our website also tracks funds available from other charities. So even if our fund is closed, you can quickly see if there is help available elsewhere. Our goal is to help patients in need find help, regardless of the source.

Subscribe to FundFinder to receive real-time funding alerts

We recognize that searching the Internet for open funds, whether within PAN or another organization, is difficult and time consuming. That’s why we developed the first patient support app, FundFinder, which allows users to sign up to receive notifications for 200 funds from nine different charities. Our award-winning app allows users to search for support organizations that may have peer support, educational resources, and other helpful offerings. It’s free to use, anyone can sign up, and with millions of notifications sent in our first two years, it connects thousands of patients with funding opportunities. Check it out at Fundfinder.org.
