TIPS OF THE DAY
Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been told he needs to stay with Arsenal.
He was heavily linked with a deadline for Everton, with the Merseyside club pushing for a loan transfer to Merseyside with an option to buy. And, to clarify his feelings, he posted a strong social media post on Monday reiterating his desire to leave so he could play regular football again.
But, in a unexpected twist, Mikel Arteta called an emergency meeting with the player and his representatives and told him he was staying at the club.
What makes things doubly confusing for Arsenal fans is that Maitland-Niles has now reversed his determination to only deploy to midfield, and has made it clear that he will now consider playing. at the right-back, which is an area of the pitch where Arsenal urgently needs an upgrade.
It’s unclear, however, if Arteta will consider picking him there. especially considering the subsequent signing of Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyaso from Bologna.
