Back with Rinse FM, and this time with Reebok in the mix to celebrate the launch of their “Reebok Reserves” archival classic collections, are we heading north for our latest size? session. Taking place at the Poetry Club in Glasgow, on Monday September 21 (19h00 – 22h30), this one threatens to be a real confrontation. Before going any further, let’s present the line-up …
Featuring a track from Che Lingo, who recently signed with Idris Elba’s 7Wallace imprint, and performances by Edinburgh hip hop artist Billy Got Waves, Glasgow DJ collective Magic City and DJ / broadcaster local K4CIE, we can’t wait to bring the heat to one of the hottest places in town.
Releasing his debut EP album ‘Charisma’ in 2018, south London-based artist Che Lingo took to rap and allowed him to make a real name for himself on the stage. His debut album ‘Sensitive’ – which almost comes as a mission statement – was released the following year and saw it echoed by Idris Elba’s 7Wallace imprint. With over a million streams of songs “My Block” and “Dark Days”, we can’t wait to see this artist on the rise.
Billy has waves
Hailing from Edinburgh, half-Scottish, half-Nigerian rapper Billy Got Waves is coming up as one of the hottest names in Scottish hip-hop. Praised for his signature blend of trap, afro bashment, grime and R&B, his style combines witty lyricism with eye-catching hooks. By winning an IMA Award for Best Scottish Album of 2018, along with supporting slots for A $ AP Nast and 808INK, we’re excited to see what he brings to a local crowd.
Hosting one of the city’s most successful Hip Hop and RnB parties, DJ collective Magic City is dedicated to showcasing the best new talent on the scene. Providing a platform for rising stars, often for their very first Scottish show, their sets are also appreciated for their smooth mix of genres and signature neon arrangements. Let’s party.
Based in Glasgow, as a broadcaster and DJ, when K4CIE isn’t shooting her own tracks, she’s busy making other people’s tracks grow. Featured on the Glasgow episode of Eventbrite’s Generation DIY series, her PEACH night – which strives to create inclusive spaces for women in queues and at clubs – has seen her highly respected on the scene. By hosting shows on NTS, Rinse, and Berlin Community Radio, as well as playing music on LuckyMe’s imprint, we can’t wait to see this trailblazer in action.
